Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Handsome 1 Gallon Stoneware Cream Pot made and stamped by "Clark & Co., Lyons."

 

This is the work of Nathan Clark who ran the pottery in Athens, New York and a satellite pottery in Lyons, New York from 1822 to 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66, 73).

 

This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Applied Handles, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt "1" Capacity Number with Underscore.  Stands 8 3/4" tall.

 

Good Condition.  A half-dozen small chips inside the rim (1/4" or less), a 1/2" chip outside the rim, heavy chipping under the right handle, and traces of silver paint.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  From the kiln:  salt residue on the front, scratches from the rim on the right side, a 2" surface firing line on the bottom left side, and a 3" Y-shaped firing line on the back bottom.
