Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare and Fantastic 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. Darrow & Sons."
This is the work of John Darrow of Baldwinsville, New York who made stoneware from 1852-1876 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 70).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Bold Shiny Cobalt Script for "James Cookly, Camillus, 1869" with Tornado Underscore. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A kiln touch on each side in the making.
This jug has it all going for it. It has an uncommon maker, sports spectacular cobalt, is dated, possesses exceptional condition, and is one of the handful of stoneware pieces known to exist from Camillus, NY.
One of the finest script jugs to be found from New York State.
