Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1867-1874 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports a Rounded Tooled Rim, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Cluster of 19 Grapes on a Stem with 9 Leaves. A medium gray glaze with bright cobalt make a strong contrast. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside and some light staining outside. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
