Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1867-1874 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Cluster of 19 Grapes on a Stem with 5 Leaves. A medium gray glaze with bright cobalt makes an extraordinary contrast. Stands 16 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the bottom edge. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A kiln touch on the right side and back in the making.
