Item 7323
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Jar whose decoration indicates that it was made by the Fulper Brothers of Flemington, New Jersey.
George Fulper and his brothers ran the family pottery from 1881-1898 (see M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, pp. 132-137).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim and a Stylized Cobalt Cornucopia Decoration. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
This decoration is found on Ottman stoneware from Fort Edward, N.Y. Ottman decoration is seen on Fulper pieces indicating that a decorator from Ottman came down to Fulper after the Ottman pottery closed. (Would love for someone to research this connection).
Very Good Condition. Minor nibbles on the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, a minor 1/8" flake and 3/8" chip on the outside of the rim, a narrow 1" chip on the back at the bottom, and some very light staining on the back. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. 4" firing line on bottom in the making.
