Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "WM. E. Warner, Manufactory, West Troy."
This is the mark of William E. Warner who ran a pottery in West Troy, N.Y. in the 1840's and 1850's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 67-68).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Tall Rim, Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Brushed Cobalt Flower. Handsome early piece. Measures 10 1/2" tall and 9" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1" chip on the rim by the right handle, a narrow 1/2" chip on the right handle, a 3/8" chip at the base, and a stain on the left side. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
