Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 3 Gallon Ovoid Crock made and stamped by "Wm. E. Warner, West Troy."

This is the mark of William E. Warner who ran a pottery in West Troy, N.Y. in the 1840's and 1850's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 67-68).

This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Tall Rim with Inscribed Shoulder, Impressed Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and a Wonderfully Detailed Bird on a Branch executed with a Slip Cup.  The bird is confidently poised with a worm in its beak.  He or she is decorated profusely, sporting a neck with dotted collar, back with dots, underbelly with swirls, and tailfeathers with dashes.  The branch bears many little leaves and blossoms.  All the cobalt is bright and shiny.  Measures 11 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top.

Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind.  A drying/firing line inside on the right that shows as a faint 2" line at the rim outside in the making (closeups).
