Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica,NY."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Running Bird with a Long Fantail Proudly Poised on a Branch. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This birdie has 7 tailfeathers and is looking backward to see if that pesky coyote is chasing him! Measures 10 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Four chips outside the rim (1/4" to 1/2") and a 3/4" chip on the back of the left handle. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
