Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by White's of Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70.
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and an Orchid with 10 Leaves and 2 Blossoms. Orchids were a favorite decoration for this pottery. Stands 13" tall.
Very Good Condition. Three chips on the spout (1/4", 3/4", 1") and some staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
