Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Running Bird with Long Tail Feathers Proudly Poised on a Branch. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This birdie has 7 tailfeathers. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two contiguous chips on the right side of the spout, a 1/4" chip on the bottom of the handle, and some staining from use. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some roughness on the top of the spout, and a small clay void by the bird's eye in the making.
