    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."

     

    This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).

     

    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a HUGE Bird on an Orchid Branch.  This bird is 10 1/4" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail.  He sports 5 prominent tail feathers.  The orchid branch has 2 leaves, a blossom, and 5 buds.  The decoration was executed with a slip cup using bright and shiny cobalt.  Stands 13" tall.  

     

    Very Good Condition. Two chips on the base edge (1/2", 2"), the latter shows slightly on the front bottom edge.  Otherwise, as made!
