Item 8238

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "White & Wood, Binghamton, N.Y."

This is the mark of Noah White of Whites Pottery in Utica, N.Y. who ran the satellite pottery in Binghamton from 1848-1888.  He had a brief association with Wood as reflected in this stamp (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).

This beauty features the pottery stamp and Large Orchid Decoration.  The outline of the orchid is executed with a slip cup and the interior is brushed with cobalt.  A row of dashes accents one of the large leaves.  The cobalt is strong, smooth, and shiny.  Stands 13 3/4" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Two chips on the left side of the spout (1/4", 1/2"), glaze wear and staining in the center back, and two 1/2" chips in the body.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
