Item 1109
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "White & Wood, Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of Noah White of Whites Pottery in Utica, N.Y. who ran the satellite pottery in Binghamton from 1848-1888. He had a brief association with Wood as reflected in this stamp (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty features the pottery stamp and a Double Orchid Created with a Slip Cup. The orchid was one of the White Pottery's favorite designs. This one is executed in very bold cobalt blue. Measures 10" tall and wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A section of small chips and wear inside the rim (closeup 1), a dozen small nibbles outside of the rim (1/4" to pinhead-size), three small chips on the right handle (1/8" to 1/4"), and one 1/4" chip on the base. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A line from the wheel near the bottom in the making (closeup 2).
