Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug stamped "W. Roberts, Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty features a Small 1 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Folky Bird on a Branch Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. The bird is giving us a side glance as it perches on the fancy dotted leafy branch. Bright cobalt used throughout the decoration. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
