Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Decorated 2 Gallon Stoneware Covered Butter Crock made and stamped by W. H. Lehew & Co., Strasburg, VA."
This is the mark of William H. Lehew who ran his pottery in Strasburg in the 1860's and 1870's.
This beauty has a Squared Rim, Brushed Cobalt Tulip on Each Side, Applied Handles, and the Pottery Stamp below one Handle. Retains its original lid. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top.
Good Condition. Two chips inside the rim (1/4", 3/8"), a dozen chips outside the rim (1/8" to 1"), and chips on one handle. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Chips on the lid knob, three chips on the edge/underside of the edge (1/8", 3/8", 1"), and minor nibbles on the seating ring on the underside. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
