Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Little 7" Jar made and stamped by W. H. Lehew & Co., Strasburg, VA."
This is the mark of William H. Lehew who ran his pottery in Strasburg in the 1860's and 1870's (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 294-98; 433-34).
This beauty has a Small Size, Tooled Rim with Recessed Groove for Fastening a Cover Over the Top, Pottery Stamp with the two "S"s Backward, and Five Brushed Cobalt Floral Blossoms around the Shoulder. Stands 7" tall.
Very Good Condition. A nibble and 3/8" chip on the rim, and a 1/2" chip at the base in the back. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A kiln touch on the left side in the making.
