Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this spectacular 2 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "T. & J. Ducey, Manufacturers, Petersburg, VA."
This is the work of Thomas and John Ducey who made stoneware in Petersburg, Virginia from 1860-1878. See Eric C. Jenkins, Ceramics in Virginia, pp. 207-10. Provenance: This piece is illustrated in Eric Jenkins, Ceramics in Virginia, p. 208, Fig. 5.26. It comes most recently from the fine collection of William H. Chapman III of Virginia.
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Elaborate Floral with Four Examples of Double Leaves Supporting a Blossom with Three Petals. Dark, bright, and shiny cobalt which contrasts very well with the warm gray glaze. Stands 12 1/2" tall.
Good Condition. A professionally sealed 7" line from the rim in the back (closeup 1), and a professionally sealed U-shaped line running 4" vertically to the left and right of the decoration and intersecting on the underside 3" (closeups 2 & 3).
