Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb Stoneware 1/2 Gallon Jar attributed to Richard Remmey of Philadelpia.
Richard Remmey made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1865, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Square Rim and Shoulder, and a Garland of Brushed Cobalt Tulips Around the Middle. Four sideways tulips and a large leaf compose the garland. Intricate and precise brushwork so typical of Remmey decorators. Strong, dark, and shiny cobalt too. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
