Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Solomon Bell, Strasburg, VA." (second line partial imprint).
 

Solomon Bell was one of the most famous of the Bell Family Potters, working as a potter in Strasburg from the early 1850's until his death in 1882 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 373-74).

 

This beauty features a Tooled Flared Rim Designed for Easily Tying a Cover Over the Top, Pottery Stamp, and Three Brushed Cobalt Vines Around the Middle.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

 

Excellent Condition.  A 1/2" chip on the rim on the right side, and a minor 1/4" chip on the base.  That's it!  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
