    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 1 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "B. C. Milburn, Alexa"  

     

    This is the stamp of Benedict Calvert Milburn who ran the old Wilkes Street Pottery, once owned by H. C. Smith, from 1841-1867.  This pottery is discussed in detail in the marvelous book by Eddie Wilder, Alexandria, Virginia Pottery 1792-1876, pages 179-289.

     

    This beauty features a Tooled Top with Squared Rim, Inscribed Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents, Pottery Stamp, Floral Garland on the Front, and Three Circular Flowers on the Back.

    Strong cobalt too.  Stands 10 3/8" tall. 

     

    Excellent Condition.  Two 1/8" nibbles on the rim and one on the base.  Four chips on the rim (1/4" to 3/4"), two chips on the left handle (1/8", 1/2"), and a couple 1/4" chips and minor nibble on the base.  No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Two short side-by-side firing lines at the base in the making (3/4", 1 1/4"- closeup)
