Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "J. M. Hickerson, Strasburg, VA."
This crock was made by James M. Hickerson who ran his pottery in Strasburg, Virginia from 1884-1898 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 298-301).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim with Groove to Facilitate Tying a Cover Over the Top, Pottery Stamp, and Two Brushed Cobalt Florals Around the Middle. Stands 10" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two narrow chips on the rim (1/4", 3/4") and two on the underside at the edge (1/4" 1"). No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A drying/firing line on the rim (closeup) and recess below on flower in the making.
