Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Satterlee & Mory, Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the stamp of George Satterlee and Michael Mory who ran this pottery together from 1859-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty sports a Larger Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Splendid Large Brushed Cobalt Bird on a Branch Decoration. The artist had a large canvas and used it! The bird is 10 1/2" from the tip of her beak to the tip of her tail. She sports an unusual dotted breast. The cobalt is bright, shiny, and gorgeous! Stands 16" tall. Comes with an old carved wooden stopper.
Excellent Condition. A faint 1" vertical surface ping line on the spout (closeup), and some small glaze chips on the left bottom side as shown. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
