Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg."

 

This is the work of Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, who potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74).

 

This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim for Ease of Tying Cheese Cloth Over the Top, a Clear Pottery Stamp, and Four Units of Comma Vining with Dangling Florals in Cobalt Blue.  Stands 9 3/4" tall.

 

Excellent Condition.  Two chips inside the rim (1/4", 3/8") and one outside (3/4").  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
