Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg." [weak first line]

 

Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, who potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74).

 

This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, the Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Cobalt Blue.  Stands 9 3/4" tall.

 

Excellent Condition.  A 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge.  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
