Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg." [weak first line]
Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, who potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74).
This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, the Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Cobalt Blue. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. A chip inside the rim (1/2"), two chips outside the rim (1/4", 1"), a 2" hairline from the rim, and a couple stain runs from use. No bases chips, cracks, or restoration.
