    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA."

     

    Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby, who potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74).

     

    This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, the Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Dark Cobalt Blue.  Stands 10" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Three narrow chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), and six chips aligned on the base (1/4" to 1").  No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
