Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon 1/2 Gallon Semi-Ovoid Jar Impressed "Rockbridge."
This beauty is attributed to John Morgan's Bustle-Firebaugh Pottery or the Rockbridge Baths Pottery of Virginia. It was made circa 1830-1850 (Russ, Crawford. Lyle, Rockbridge County Artists & Artisans, p. 180.
This beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Shape, Short and Rounded Tooled Rim, Applied Handles, "Rockbridge" Impressed on the Shoulder with Cobalt Wash on the Front, and a Plant in a Pot on the Back. Stands 9 1/2" tall
Very Good Condition. A couple minor nibbles and a 1/2" hairline on the rim (closeup 1), a nibble and 3/4" chip on the right handle, and a faint 3 1/2" in-body hairline on the back (closeup 2). No cracks, stains, or restoration. Some salt deposit at the base in the making.
