Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose decoration indicates that it was made by Robert Davidson of Richmond, Virginia.
This decoration is found on Baltimore stoneware of T. W. Brotherton from the 1830's. Davidson was his partner and he briefly made stoneware in Richmond in 1841.
This pieces is featured in Eric C. Jenkins, Ceramics in Virginia: 19th Century Stoneware from the Lower James River Valley, p. 211.
This beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Rolled Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Handle Terminals, and a Brushed Cobalt Flower on Each Side. The flower has six leaves and two blossoms with three open petals each. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Good Condition. Chips around the rim and two 2" hairlines from the rim (closeups), minor nibbles at the base, and scattered small stains. No inner rim chips, cracks, or restoration.
