    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Merchant Jug made for "T. F. & W. P. Guy, Fitchburg, Mass." 

     

    The decoration indicates that this is the work of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who made stoneware in Worcester from 1856-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).  

     

    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Stylized Swirl Floral in Bright Cobalt Blue.  Stands 15" tall. 

     

    AND SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER SEEN ON JUG FROM THIS PERIOD-- THE MERCHANT PAPER LABEL ON THE BACK! 

     

    The label reads, "T. F. & W. P. Guy, 135 Main Street, Fitchburg.  Jobbers and Retailers in Groceries, Flour, and Produce.  We are receiving our Flour in Car Lots direct from the Best Mills in the country, and can retail at wholesale prices.  All kinds of Coffee raw or fresh roasted and ground at time of sale, at prices not beat in the state.  Great Bargains in Teas!     The label has illustrations of a Chinaman carrying boxes of tea and a pitcher and bowl set. 

     

    Very Good Condition.  Scattered staining from use.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Some bubbling in the cobalt in the making.
