Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "Burger Bro's & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
 
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. and George Burger who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1867-1869 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
 
This beauty sports a Small Churn Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number, and an Elaborate Cobalt Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup. The decorators at Burger were some of the best and this tulip shows considerable skill in shading and accenting of the decoration. Stands 15 1/4" tall.  Comes with a period and form-fitting lid.
 
Excellent Condition.  Minor nibbles around the lid-seating ring inside, and a small, light stain on the bottom front to the right.   That's it!  No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Two stone pings in the making.  Exceptionally clean example.  The lid has a 3/8" chip on the outer edge. Otherwise, as made.
