Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Salt Glaze Churn with Butterfly.
 
The decoration on this churn is similar to that on stoneware by the North Star Stoneware Company of Red Wing, Minnesota which was in operation from 1892 to 1896 until becoming part of the Union Stoneware Company and eventually the Red Wing Stoneware Company (Dan DePasquale and Larry Peterson, Red Wing Stoneware Encyclopedia, pp. 11, 17). 
 
This beauty features Salt Glaze, Fancy "5" Capacity Number, and a Butterfly Decoration found on various versions in Red Wing stoneware. Stands 16 1/2" tall.
 
Very Good Condition. Nibbles and small chips (under 1/2") around the seating rim inside where a lid would sit, faint surface glaze lines on the left and right sides that are not visible inside (closeups), and some staining from use. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
