Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug stamped "N. Furman, No. 89 Peck Slip, N.Y."
This is the work of Noah Furman of Cheesequake, New Jersey in the mid 19th century. It is a rare example of his sales outlet in New York City (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, p. 191-193).
Dating about 1850, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Delicate Floral with 6 Leaves, 2 Bunches of 3 Buds, and 2 Large Blossoms-- all in Strong Cobalt. Stands 13" tall.
Fair to Good Condition. Two chips on the spout (3/8", 1"), missing handle, and a 3 1/2" wide U-shaped ping line on the bottom of the left side (closeup). No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
