Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, N.Y. from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty the Pottery Stampwith Cobalt Wash on the Shoulder, and a Huge Cobalt Orchid Decoration. The outliine and accent stripes of the decoration were created with a slip cup and the fill in the decoration was applied with a brush. The cobalt is outstanding--rich, shiny, and free of fry. Stands 14 1/4"tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3/8" chip at the base and some staining around the shoulder. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
