Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 4 Gallon Crock with Urn of Flowers made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, New York from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware , pp. 69-70).
Dating about 1870, this beauty features a Large Urn of Orchids executed with a Slip Cup in Brilliant Cobalt Blue. From the base urn decorated with cross-hatch arises three pairs of different style leaves with center tornado and two tall stems with an orchid blossom with six petals and five buds. Makes a statement! Measures 11" tall and 11 3/4" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip on top of the rim, minor nibbles and two chips on the sides and back of the rim (3/4", 1"), some small flakes in the cobalt, and a few small and light stains. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
