Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantrabulous 1 Gallon Face Jug made and signed by "Bayne Maker, S.C."

This is the work of Michel Bayne, currently of Lincolnton, North Carolina.   I personally consider Mr. Bayne to be THE finest contemporary Southern potter.

As mentioned on the back, this beauty is a Representation of Dave Drake, currently known as "Dave the Slave" who made such wonderful pottery prior to the Civil War.  The back of the jug has one of his poems, "I wonder where is all my relations, friendly to all and every nation.  16 August 1857."  Bayne's aristry is evident in this work with its lifelike face, riviting eyes, unglazed lips, and green ash glaze.   Stands 12 1/2" to the top of the handle.

Exceptional Condition.  Two narrow chip on the underside at the edge (1/4", 5/8").  That's it!  No handle or spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
