Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 1 Gallon Stoneware Decorated Jar.
It is attributed to Henry Lowndes of Petersburg, Virginia. Henry Lowndes made stoneware in Petersburg, Virginia from 1830 to 1842. It comes most recently from the fine collection of William H. Chapman III of Virginia.
This beauty features a Tree of Life on Both Sides. While the stems and leaves feature typical Lowndes artistry with upward turned leaves, the decorator was creative in giving the flowers crescent-shaped petals with inner dots. Strong cobalt and consistent application. Stands 11" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Very remarkable!
