Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "L. Lehman & Co., West 12th St., N.Y."
This is the work of Louis Lehman who potted in New York from 1858-1863 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 63).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and Folk Art Bird on a Flower with Berries Decoration. The bird is looking back and sports a striped breast. The flower has four leaves a blossom, and a cluster of 5 berries. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip on the rim, and two chips on the underside (3/4", 1"). That's it! No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
