Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "I. Seymour, Troy Factory."
This is the work of the pottery of Israel Seymour in Troy New York. He worked from at least 1816 to 1852. This mark was used between 1830 and 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 66).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Brushed Cobalt Tulip. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the spout, a restored hole on the bottom center (once a lamp), and some staining near the bottom. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
