Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Julius Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1838 to about 1844 (See William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 41-44).
This beauty sports a Tall and Slender Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Branch of Honeysuckle in Brushed Cobalt Blue. Stands 14 1/2" tall
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1" chip on the right side of the spout that is partly in the making, a surface ping to the right of the capacity number, and a minor 1/8" nibble on the handle. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Three short 1" drying/firing lines on the base in the making.
