Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug stamped "Jordan."
The decoration and capacity number indicate that it was made by Sidney Norton started and ran the first pottery in Jordan somewhere between 1825 and 1855 (William C. Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900. 2nd ed. pp. 299-301).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Swipes, and Two Brushed Cobalt Tulips Emerging from Two Dotted Leaves, with Additional Leaves Framing the Base of the Decoration. Stands 14" tall.
This is one of the earliest pieces to be found from Jordan and very hard to find.
Excellent Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A narrow kiln touch in the left leaf in the making.
