Item 11955
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Double Thistle Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark and Shiny Cobalt. This is a different configuration of this design that I have never seen. The two thistle blossoms hang down from a center stem. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple pinhead-size nibbles on the spout. Otherwise, as made!
