Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

 

This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery in Rochester, NY under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

 

This beauty sports a Larger Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Fern Decoration.  The fern was created with a slip cup using bright and shiny cobalt.  It sports three fronds and two emerging fiddleheads.    Stands 16 1/2" tall. 

 

Excellent Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind.  Chips on the underside at the edge in one spot from separation in the kiln in the making.
