Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."
This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Flower with 3 Buds Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt. Five striped leaves support a full blossom with 7 petals accompanied by three buds. Measures 13 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Some overglaze in the making.
