Item 3742

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this cute 1 gallon stoneware jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."

This is the work of Julius Norton, his son Luman, and his cousin Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42, 44).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bluebird Proudly Poised on a Branch.  Rich and shiny cobalt like we expect from the Norton factory. Stands 10 3/4" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Some nibbles and a 1/4" chip on the spout, a 1/2" sliver chip on the shoulder near the handle, and a 1/2" chip on the underside near the edge on the back.  That's it!  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

A cute little bluebird on a cute little jug from Vermont!
