Item 2813
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Bold Bird on a Branch in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The artist impressed us with his decoration and use of color! Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip on the left side near the base, and some small and light stains and wear spots from use. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A small kiln touch below the bird near the bottom in the making.
