Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fine 3 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "J. Heiser, Buffalo, N.Y. "
This is the mark of John Heiser who ran his father's pottery along with his brother Henry from 1848-1857 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 75).
This beauty features a Thick Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles, Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Sideways Tulip. The tulip sports two dotted leaves and one tornado-like leaf. The blossom has eight petals with dotted center. Stands 13" tall.
Very Good Condition. Wear and a couple 1/2" chips on the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, a 1" chip on the face of the right handle toward the back, a 1 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge, and some minor flakes on the base edge. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
