Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock that reads, "Manufactured by J. H. Miller, Brandenburg, KY."  
 
James H. Miller of Brandenburg, Kentucky ran his pottery there from 1840-1884 when a flood destroyed it. 
 
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Wide Tooled Rim for Ease of Tying a Cover Over the Top, Applied Handles, and Brushed Cobalt Decoration Top to Bottom.  The top half hosts two stripes as strings of beads, each carrying three long sideways leaves.  The bottom displays the pottery advertising in large block letters.  The cobalt is strong and the glaze light gray for a very pleased visual contrast.  Measures 11 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.  
 
Very Good Condition.  Two chips on the rim as shown, two 3" vertical surface-only craze lines on the back, and one small stain on the back.  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  The chip on the bottom front filled with cobalt prior to firing and is in the making.
