Item 12459

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 1 Gallon Batter Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."

This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).

The front features a Tulip Blossom Hugging the Bottom of the Pour Spout, the Pottery Stamp, and Brushed Cobalt Leaf on the front, a Chrysanthemum and Bud on Each Side, and another Flower on the Back.  Additional cobalt accet at the handle terminals.  Retains an old bail handle.  Stands 9 1/2" Tall.

Excellent Condition. Two minor nibbles on the spout and one on the rim.  That's it!  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

One of the best batter jugs I have ever had to offer.
