Item 12497
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this sublime 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "I. Seymour, Troy."
This is the work of the pottery of Israel Seymour in Troy, New York. This pottery was in operation from at least 1816 to 1852. This mark was used between 1830 and 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 66).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Incised Bird Standing on a Leaf with Cobalt Fill. A skillful hand gave the bird a graceful form with carefully drawn eye, wings, and feet. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor nibbles on the footer. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1" stone ping on the right side near the bottom in the making.
