Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Decorated Jar Stamped by "J. Eberly & Bro., Strasburg, VA."
This is the mark of Jacob Jeremiah Eberly and his brother, Joseph, who began pottery manufacture in 1874 after buying a share of the Keister Pottery. See the discussion in H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, p. 399.
This beauty features a Very Carefully Tooled Rim to Facilitate Tying Paper or Cloth Covering Over the Opening to Seal it, the Pottery Stamp under One Handle, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and A Fancy Brushed Cobalt Decoration on Each Side Composed of Comma Vining in Different Configurations. Stands 12 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two small chips on one handle and three on the other (1/8" to 3/8"). That's it. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
